Babassu oil is also known as Babassu “butter” because it is solid at room temperature, but melts quickly on contact with the body. Its consistency and properties are similar to those of coconut oil.
Babassu is a palm tree native to Amazonia and also found as far away as Florida.
This very robust tree can grow to a height of 20 metres and have up to 500 nuts measuring between 6 and 12 cm. The seeds contained in these nuts are pressed and give the Babassu oil. The Mayans have been using it for centuries as a foodstuff. It is still used today in indigenous cosmetics.
Very rich in lauric acid, this oil has exceptional penetrating properties and is non-comedogenic. Very mild, it is also highly emollient and suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive.
