WHO AM I?

Processing method of benzoin absolute: solvent extraction (hexane free)
Part of the plant: resin
Odour: vanilla-like, warm and sweet (BASE NOTE)

Origin: Indonesia

Botanical name: Styrax tonkinensis
Family: Styraceacea
The resin is collected from incisions made on the trunk of trees more than 7 years old. It comes in the form of solid but fragile pieces of a dark brown or white. This product must be further processed to reduce the resin to a liquid form. The benzoin comes from trees of origin of the East Indies, it is also found in the peninsula of Indochina, Thailand, the kingdoms of Siam and Sumatra. It was traditionally used by indigenous tribes as a purifier, regenerating and promoting the decongestion of the respiratory tract. Today, many dermatological or respiratory balms use it a lot. Rich in sweet and caramelized vanilla notes, its fragrance will allow you to make compositions with sweet, spicy and oriental notes. Comforting and warming, Benzoin also helps soothe moments of nervous tension and promotes relaxation and meditation.

COSMETIC USE

As an ingredient in the formulation of your cosmetic preparations: you can directly incorporate benzoin absolute at the end of the formula.

For example, in your cosmetic preparations (massage oil, perfume, body care, …): up to 0.2% to 0.5%

 

PERFUME

feminine notes: vanilla, woody, spicy or floral where Benzoin, as a balsamic base note, brings up vanilla and sweet notes, wild and warm scents and sometimes elegant notes of wood.

masculine notes: Benzoin acts as a real note fixer in these perfumes, which, depending on the nature of the raw materials. It has a warm and opulent character (in combination with sandalwood or patchouli) or a drier appearance (in association with Cedar or Vetiver).

In addition, you can find the benzoin in famous brands: Opium (Yves St Laurent) / Kenzo Jungle (Kenzo) / Terre d’Hermès (Hermes)

CAUTION

      • Not advised during the first 3 months of pregnancy and in small children
      • Skin irritative
      • Do not use it purely on the skin, make a strong dilution in vegetable oil. As a rule, test the product by applying a little in the crook of your elbow or on your wrist before using it, at least 48 hours prior to use.
      • Even though there is generally a low risk of sensitization, Tisserand recommends a maximum dilution of 2%
      • Avoid both eye and mucous membranes contact.
      • Do not ingest, exclusively for dermal use
      • Keep out of reach of children.

 

STORAGE CONDITIONS

Keep it in the original bottle, away from air and light, at a temperature below 25C

The cooler the oleoresin is, the thicker it will be. To help you:

-slightly heat your bottle under a stream of hot water to fluidise the absolute (by bringing it to around 30 °C)

-remove the plastic codigoutte (keeping it to put it back in case of transporting your bottle)

-use a pipette
