WHAT IS CORN FLOWER HYDROLATE?

 

Cornflower hydrolate is a floral water or hydrosol, which is a byproduct of the steam distillation process used to extract essential oils from plants. It comes from the cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) plant and also contains the water-soluble compounds and some of the volatile compounds found in the plant

It takes 750 g of cornflowers to produce one litre of hydrolate. The distillation process gives only hydrolate thus the plant does not produce an essential oil.

The cornflower is a plant found in Europe, North America and also Asia. Its size varies between 11 cm and 1 metre (depending on the variety). Long considered a weed, it grows wildly and naturally in sunny areas and rocky soils.

PROPERTIES OF CORN FLOWER HYDROLATE

• astringent, decongestant: it tones devitalized or dry skin tissue and tightens pores. At the ophthalmic level, it decongests the eyes and swollen eyelids.
• Anti-oxidant: cornflower hydrolate has an anti-oxidant effect that helps to fight against cell ageing.
• Soothing: it soothes eyes that are tired and irritated by pollution, allergies or simply fatigue. It also soothes irritated or sun-damaged skin, for example.
• Both calming and revitalising, it refreshes, stimulates and brightens the complexion.

USAGE

• Incorporated in your spray preparations on the skin of your face and neck after cleansing. Then apply your skin care cream or oil immediately to damp skin.
• As a gentle ingredient in soothing creams and milks, or in homemade make-up remover lotions.
• Incorporated the water phase in your home cosmetic formulas, such as a gentle make-up remover, a shower gel for sensitive skin, a rinsing lotion for delicate skin. It is also useful as an after-sun body care product, a face mask, a lotion to apply with a compress to soothe the eyes
• As a compress to alleviate congestion in swollen eyes

The other tip: the lotion in the fridge will increase the decongesting effect.

 

STORAGE CONDITIONS

Keep it in the original bottle, away from air and light, in the FRIDGE
